Math Open Day Hanoi 2020

29/11/2020

HAN/ on November 29, 2020, the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) organized the Math Open Day 2020 at the Hanoi University of Science with the theme of "Mathematics for a better world".

Mathematics plays an essential role in organizing society effectively for the benefit of all citizens. Mathematics helps optimize transport and communication networks and assists in constructing and intelligent management of health, economic, and social systems.

Science and math play an essential role in guiding policies and decisions to promote social peace and justice. Mathematics is also used for weather forecasting and disaster preparedness. Mathematics warns about climate change and helps us predict and mitigate its consequences.

In 2020, when the world is facing the COVID-19 pandemic, Mathematics provides models and tools to help us understand, track, and control viruses' spread. From these ideas, on November 29, 2020, the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) organized the Math Open Day 2020 at the Hanoi University of Science with the theme of "Mathematics for a better world".

Same as the previous years, Horizon International Bilingual School Hanoi joined MOD HN 2020 as a partner with a large group of students, teachers, and administrators to share our experiences with visitors, students, and children. This year there were around 2500 visitors, and everyone had a great enthusiasm to learn and gain new experiences.

Horizon booths were one of the most attractive stations, full of visitors throughout the day such that we didn't have time to have any lunch break because we had continuous visitors to our booths. We are happy that many people are interested in our games and manipulatives.

On that day, our Vietnamese parents and our foreign parents from different nationalities came to visit MOD to see how their children were doing and support us. Horizon students were confident and responsible when they explained and guided visitors. Altogether we had a great day.

Thanks to VIASM administration and staff for organizing MODs, and we, as Horizon, proud and happy to be part of such a meaningful event.
