Extreme Weather Safety: Typhoons, Heavy Rain, Flooding, Heat & Air Quality

At Horizon International Bilingual School, the safety, well-being, and care of every student remain at the heart of everything we do. As part of the school’s Health and Safety commitment, Horizon closely monitors severe weather conditions including typhoons, heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, flooding, extreme heat, and poor air quality to ensure timely and appropriate decisions are made for the entire school community.

Typhoons, Heavy Rain & Flooding

During periods of severe weather, the school may adjust daily operations to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment. Depending on weather conditions and guidance from local authorities, this may include modifying outdoor activities, increasing indoor supervision, adjusting arrival or dismissal times, or temporarily closing the campus when necessary.

When students are already on campus, Horizon ensures they remain safely supervised in secure indoor areas until weather conditions improve or families are able to collect them safely.

Heavy rain and flooding may also impact surrounding roads and transportation routes, causing delays or temporary changes to school bus services. In these situations, Horizon works closely with transportation providers and campus teams to monitor travel conditions and support students until they can safely continue their journey home.

Communication with Families

Clear and timely communication is essential during extreme weather events. Horizon keeps families informed through the school’s official communication channels and encourages parents to regularly check announcements and maintain updated contact information with the School Office.

Parents are also encouraged to notify the school of any changes regarding pick-up arrangements, transportation, or emergency contact details to help ensure smooth coordination during unexpected situations.

Extreme Heat & Air Quality

In cases of extreme heat or reduced air quality, outdoor activities may be limited, rescheduled, moved indoors, or canceled to prioritize student health and comfort. Students are encouraged to stay hydrated, minimize unnecessary physical exertion, and follow staff guidance throughout the school day.

The school continues to monitor environmental conditions carefully and adjusts activities when needed to support students’ safety, well-being, and readiness for learning.
