Learning Together – Growing Together at Horizon International Bilingual School

At Horizon International Bilingual School, we believe that meaningful learning happens not only through teachers, but also through collaboration, connection, and student empowerment. Our Peer Tutoring Programme is a student-led initiative designed to foster a supportive learning culture where students learn from one another, grow together, and build confidence both academically and personally.

The programme creates valuable opportunities for students to support their peers in a positive and collaborative environment while developing leadership, communication, and lifelong learning skills.

A Supportive Student Learning Community

Through the Peer Tutoring Programme, trained student tutors provide academic guidance and encouragement to peers who may need additional support in specific subjects.

This peer-to-peer learning approach helps students:

  • Strengthen academic understanding
  • Build confidence in learning
  • Develop positive study habits
  • Improve communication and collaboration skills
  • Feel supported within the school community

At Horizon, we foster a culture where asking questions, seeking support, and helping others are recognised as strengths that contribute to both academic success and personal growth.

Core Academic Support Areas

The programme focuses on supporting students in key academic subjects, including:

  • Mathematics
  • Science (Biology, Physics, and Chemistry)
  • English

Tutoring sessions are personalised based on students’ needs and may take place in one-on-one settings or small collaborative groups.

Developing Student Leadership & Responsibility

The Peer Tutoring Programme not only benefits students receiving support but also empowers student tutors to become confident leaders and role models within the school community.

By mentoring and teaching others, student tutors strengthen:

  • Leadership skills
  • Public speaking and communication
  • Critical thinking
  • Responsibility and empathy
  • Subject mastery and academic confidence

The programme encourages students to become active contributors to a caring and collaborative school culture.

Student-Led, Teacher-Supported

The programme is coordinated by student leaders under the guidance and supervision of Horizon’s faculty team to ensure meaningful learning experiences and effective tutor partnerships.

Tutors and students are carefully matched according to:

  • Subject strengths
  • Learning needs
  • Year levels
  • Schedules and availability

Sessions are organized during break times, lunch periods, after school, or in designated learning spaces such as classrooms and the library.

Building Confidence Through Collaboration

At Horizon, the Peer Tutoring Programme reflects our commitment to inclusivity, teamwork, and student agency. By encouraging students to learn collaboratively and support one another, we help nurture confident learners, compassionate

leaders, and a strong sense of belonging within our international school community.

Through every conversation, shared challenge, and learning experience, students discover that success grows stronger when achieved together.
