Learning Expo 2020

18/12/2020

On the 4th of December, crowds gathered at Horizon Hanoi preparing for takeoff into Learning Expo 2020. Guests were greeted at the school entrance with boarding passes, giving access to the lucky draw competition. Guests included schools from Trường THCS Lê Lợi, Trường THCS Chu Văn An, and Trường THCS Dịch Vọng Hậu. This year’s theme was “CROSSING BORDERS”, raising awareness to the variety of nationalities working and studying at Horizon. After a year where travelling was kept at a minimum, and with people social distancing, Horizon became an airport where students, parents, and teachers could collaborate together to make something special.
The day began with the parents’ fashion show, where each grade had parent representatives work together to design a product made from recyclable materials. This design required thorough care and attention to detail. Each piece was categorised into a main theme; these included Fairytale, Pokemoms and many more creative pieces. As well as being designers, parents also got a chance to kick the Learning Expo off to an exciting start by modelling their work of art. Judges, including several teachers, were impressed with the range of talent and hardwork displayed by the parents.

The fashion show was followed with a mixture of contemporary and traditional dances performed by secondary students. Students were dressed in ao dai gowns for the ‘I Love Vietnam’ performance. Alongside this, there were brilliant dances by guest schools. This emphasised the importance of ‘crossing borders’ between schools and encouraging the various talents amongst students.

The purpose of Learning Expo is to combine subjects to work together to create a project that applies to real-life situations. There were a range of displays including TED Talk videos, news reporting, MTV Music Videos, My Flag My Pride, and many more. During lunch time, the community enjoyed their meals while listening to the ‘Lunch Podcast’ made by Grade 5 students. Guests were free to browse around the school where students were providing interactive presentations about their projects.

The day finished with an awards ceremony for parents who took part in the fashion show. Everyone was accredited for their participation on the day by the school principal, Mr. Faradin. To finish this, the lucky draw took place, where winners were identified with their boarding passes. Many students, guests, and teachers won prizes.

It was a memorable day for Horizon Hanoi after everyone helped bridge the borders of classroom activities together. The talent was very impressive, and proved that what we learn in the classroom can be used in a variety of creative ways and applied to real-life situations. Learning Expo 2020 taught that working together and crossing borders can lead to wonderful things.
