🧪 WHEN CHEMISTRY BECOMES ART: GLASS ETCHING WITH THE HALOGEN GROUP ✨

This week, the Chemistry lab was transformed into a miniature art studio. Under the dedicated guidance of Mr Son, four of our "young scientists" – Cong Vinh, Phuc Minh, Khoi Nguyen, and Tony – conducted a truly remarkable experiment: utilising the distinctive properties of the Halogen group to create unique, one-of-a-kind works of art.

🔬 The Secret Behind the Intricate Frosted Etchings

The star of this hands-on experience was hydrofluoric acid (HF). In the world of chemistry, HF possesses a unique "superpower" unlike any other acid: the ability to etch glass.

Upon contact with the silicon dioxide component in the glass, a chemical reaction took place, creating incredibly delicate and beautiful frosted etchings. Without the need for chisels or complex machinery, teachers and students borrowed the very "hands" of chemical bonds to trace these magical patterns.

💡 Learning by Doing at Horizon

To master an element as spirited as HF, all four students had to strictly adhere to laboratory safety regulations, remaining highly focused during every step – from applying the protective wax layer and designing patterns to carefully applying the acid.

Seeing the bright smiles and immense pride on their faces as they held their finished pieces, the school truly believes that: knowledge only becomes vibrant when students can touch and experience it firsthand.
