Family Sports Day

25/04/2021

/Hanoi Horizon International Bilingual School Hanoi held its annual sports day on Saturday the 10th of April at a sports ground in Tay Ho.

Parents, teachers and students attended the event dressed in their team colors based on their houses: whether it was Yellow Phoenix, Blue Lion, Red Dragon or Green Cobra.

There was a brilliant turnout starting from 8am, and although the morning began with some light drizzle, luckily the weather was clear and dry for the rest of the day. Each house had their own booths which were decorated with a team effort by teachers, students and parents. All ages collaborated together to support their house and encourage physical activities.

The event kicked off with a parade led by each house captain where they gathered team members together to sing their house chant and waved their house colors with a festive spirit and cheer. There was a fun yet competitive atmosphere between each of the houses as friends and family became friendly rivals for the day.

There was an opening speech by school officials, Mr. Faridin and Mr. Park, which was soon followed by a warm up routine led by P.E. teachers at the school. All staff, parents and students of all ages were jumping around the pitch shortly after this workout, full of energy and enthusiasm to ‘let the games begin’.

The games were divided into three competing categories: primary students, high school/secondary students, parents & teachers. There were a range of activities including: the ‘Sack Race’ which had everyone hopping at a fast speed to beat the other teams while trying not to trip over their toes. Each house’s football skills were soon put to test as they competed to hit different markers in the goals with the ball.

One of the most competitive and challenging games was the tug of war- where two teams battled and struggled as they tugged on the rope using strength, force and determination to win. The Red Dragons set this competition on fire as they won the Parents/Teachers and Secondary/High School category.

There were singing performances and a band playing during the break time, which included some of Horizon’s very own students. All teams united with snacks to enjoy the live entertainment.

More events continued following the lunch break. These included a hula-hoop challenge which involved collaboration between all ages. There was a car-wash game shortly after which involved speediness and groupwork to fill a bucket of water.

The day ended with a dance competition between each of the houses which provided entertainment and enjoyment.

There was a remarkable effort between all teams which made the event unforgettable. Despite the hard work of all houses, Yellow Phoenix were crowned champions at the end of the day. The day finished with a photoshoot and awards ceremony for all participants.

The school would like to thank everyone who travelled to the sports day and participated in the games. A massive thank you and congratulations to everyone who played a part, big and small, in the organisation of the event. Each of you made it a special day, and we look forward to seeing all of you at events in the future!
