Horizon International Bilingual School
We believe a strong reading culture helps children grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Across the primary years, we create daily opportunities for students to enjoy books, develop confidence, and build a lifelong love of reading.
In Grade 1 and Grade 2, our phonics programme focuses on building a secure foundation in reading and writing. Students develop key skills in sounds, blending, decoding, spelling, and early comprehension that support future success across the curriculum.
In all grades, students take part in daily DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read), where they pause to read real books for pleasure. This dedicated reading time helps students build positive habits, curiosity, and a genuine passion for reading.
Our Moral/Wellbeing curriculum is closely connected to stories and literature, helping students understand themselves, develop empathy, and appreciate others' experiences.
Throughout the year, students are inspired through regular reading and writing competitions, creative challenges, and special literacy events that celebrate achievement and encourage participation. To recognise consistent effort and progress, we proudly select our Reading & Writing Champions four times each year."
