 House System: Belonging, Leadership, and School Spirit

At Horizon International School, the House System is an important part of how we build a safe, supportive, and inclusive school community. Aligned with our commitment to student well-being, global citizenship, and character development, the House System helps students feel connected, valued, and empowered within the wider life of the school.

Through our four Houses — Blue Lions, Green Archers, Red Dragons, and Yellow Phoenix — students become part of smaller cross-grade communities where they can develop friendships, strengthen relationships with teachers, and take pride in shared experiences. This structure nurtures a strong sense of belonging while encouraging students to engage positively with others across different ages, backgrounds, and perspectives.

The House System also provides meaningful opportunities for leadership and personal growth. Guided by teacher House Leaders and student Captains and Vice Captains, students learn to take responsibility, contribute to group goals, and lead with integrity. Through sports, academic competitions, cultural events, charity initiatives, and school spirit activities, they develop resilience, teamwork, communication, and a willingness to support others.

More than a competitive structure, the House System reflects Horizon’s vision of bringing up curious, creative, compassionate, and committed young people. It encourages students to celebrate effort, show respect, practise fair play, and approach challenges with a growth mindset. As they work together toward common goals, students learn the value of cooperation, inclusion, and community contribution.

At Horizon, the House System is a meaningful part of the student experience. It helps learners grow not only in confidence and leadership, but also in compassion, responsibility, and school pride — preparing them to participate actively and thoughtfully in both the school community and the wider world.
